"Leaders need to be strong, not harsh."

Listening to Chris Germer talk about (self-) compassion in leadership last night, left a warm feeling in my heart. It reminded me of my own path to a more compassionate way of self-leadership and leadership of others.

Why is walking on this path worthwhile? Because leader-self-care begets other care:

Taking a (self-) supporting, kind, and non-judgmental stance towards self in relation to everyday challenges in their leader role, enables them to take effective action towards their employees by helping them to deal effectively with their own problems.

In return leaders are perceived as more competent and civil (Lanaj et al., 2022). And that is not the end of it.

Research shows: Better self-care enables leaders and their teams to feel safer at work, to become more creative, learn from mistakes, and collaborate better with others. All factors which are vital for successful action in today's world of work.

Hence, be ready to find your own grounding in times of "toxic winds" as we called it yesterday.

Thank you Center for Compassionate Leadership for this inspiring event. It keeps me going on my mission to make leadership more humane๐Ÿงก.

What is your act of compassionate (self-) leadership today?
